In addition to uniform federal benefits (Kindergeld, Elterngeld, Kinderzuschlag, Mutterschaftsgeld, Unterhaltsvorschuss), all 16 federal states offer their own supplementary family benefits. These state benefits vary considerably: Bavaria pays its own Familiengeld of up to 250 €/month, Baden-Württemberg a state parenting allowance of up to 205 €/month, Thuringia supports families with up to 200 €/month additionally.

Also particularly relevant are state-specific daycare regulations: in Hamburg, Berlin, Rhineland-Palatinate and Thuringia, daycare is free or heavily subsidised — a financial advantage that significantly increases overall family support. Family passes and cards (Bavaria, BW, NRW) offer additional discounts at leisure facilities, public transport and cultural events.
